Provincetown Family Week 2026 Event Highlights

The History of Provincetown Family Week

For more than three decades, Family Week has played an important role in creating visibility and support for queer families. What started as a small gathering among vacationing families in Provincetown has grown into an internationally recognized event that now welcomes hundreds of families each year.

Today, Family Week continues to thrive as a cornerstone LGBTQ+ event, drawing hundreds of families each year for a week of connection, education, and celebration. From its humble beginnings to welcoming nearly 600 families and more than 1,300 participants in recent years, Family Week remains a powerful reflection of how community, acceptance, and shared experiences can grow into a lasting tradition.

Things to Do Beyond Official Events

Family Week may be centered around community events, but Provincetown itself is a destination rich with adventure, culture, and coastal charm. Taking time to explore beyond the official schedule allows families to fully experience why Provincetown remains one of the most beloved LGBTQ+ travel destinations in the world.

Explore Provincetown’s Beautiful Beaches

Provincetown is home to some of Cape Cod’s most iconic beaches, perfect for family outings before or after daily programming. Herring Cove Beach is a favorite for calm waters, sunsets, and Family Week’s signature Beach Bash, while Race Point Beach offers dramatic dunes, wildlife viewing, and stunning Atlantic scenery.

Visit the Pilgrim Monument & Provincetown Museum

One of Provincetown’s most famous landmarks, the Pilgrim Monument offers panoramic views of town, Cape Cod Bay, and the Atlantic Ocean. Families can climb the monument, learn about Provincetown’s history, and explore exhibits that highlight the town’s cultural significance.

Go Whale Watching

Provincetown is one of New England’s premier whale watching destinations. Family Week often includes marine-focused experiences, but booking an additional whale watch excursion can be an unforgettable adventure for children and adults alike.

Discover the Best Candy Shops, Ice Cream, & Sweet Treats

Explore Provincetown’s top candy stores, ice cream shops, and dessert destinations. From homemade fudge and classic saltwater taffy to fresh pastries, gourmet chocolates, and waterfront sundaes, discover the best places to satisfy your sweet tooth in Ptown.

Bike Through the Cape Cod National Seashore

Provincetown’s bike trails offer a fantastic way for families to explore scenic dunes, coastal forests, and beaches. Bike rentals are widely available, making it easy to enjoy one of the area’s most popular outdoor activities.
