Spotlight Films at Provincetown International Film Festival 2026

Desperate Living

John Waters closes his infamous “trash trilogy” with this outrageous cult classic following two fugitives who escape to the bizarre outlaw town of Mortville. Wildly chaotic, satirical, and unapologetically campy, the film remains one of Waters’ most notorious creations.

Erosions

Set in Provincetown, Erosions combines dance, documentary storytelling, and archival footage to explore coastal erosion alongside themes of queer memory, identity, and cultural change on Cape Cod.

Family Movie

A family’s low-budget horror production spirals into chaos when a real dead body appears on set. Starring Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick, this comedy-horror film celebrates indie filmmaking, family dysfunction, and campy horror fun.

Jaripeo

This visually immersive documentary explores queer identity and hidden desire within the hypermasculine rodeo culture of Michoacán, Mexico through dreamlike imagery and deeply personal storytelling.

John Waters Presents: Sick of Myself

Selected by John Waters, this dark Norwegian comedy follows two narcissistic partners competing for attention in increasingly absurd and disturbing ways.

Leviticus

A supernatural coming-of-age horror story about two teenage boys whose growing attraction manifests into a terrifying entity shaped by fear, repression, and religious fanaticism.

Stop! That! Train!

RuPaul leads a star-studded drag comedy where glamorous train attendants race to stop a disaster aboard a chaotic high-speed train packed with camp, comedy, and over-the-top performances.

Why the Provincetown Film Festival Is Unique

Unlike larger city festivals, PIFF combines nationally recognized independent cinema with the intimacy of a small coastal town. Filmmakers and attendees often mingle throughout Provincetown between screenings, creating a relaxed and highly social atmosphere that feels distinctly Provincetown.

The festival also reflects Provincetown’s long history as an artist colony and LGBTQ+ cultural destination, making it one of the most distinctive film festivals in the country.
