Every September, pilots, aviation professionals, aviation enthusiasts, and friends from around the country arrive in Provincetown for one of the town’s most distinctive weekends of the year: the National Gay Pilots Association Cape Cod Classic.
Often referred to around town as Pilots Weekend, the Cape Cod Classic combines aviation, community, networking, and classic Provincetown experiences over four days. The 2026 event takes place Thursday, September 17 through Sunday, September 20, with activities ranging from aviation gatherings and an airport fly-in to poolside events, Tea Dance, a drag brunch, and a sunset sail.

About the NGPA Cape Cod Classic
The Cape Cod Classic is an annual gathering organized by the National Gay Pilots Association (NGPA). What began as a small gathering of gay pilots more than 30 years ago has developed into NGPA’s flagship East Coast event.
Provincetown provides a fitting setting for the weekend. The town has a long history as an LGBTQ+ destination, while its compact size makes it easy for attendees to move between waterfront venues, Commercial Street, restaurants, nightlife, and the airport.

Provincetown Pilots Weekend 2026 Schedule
Here are some of the highlights currently planned for the 2026 Cape Cod Classic. This is intended as an overview rather than a replacement for NGPA’s official schedule.

Pilots Weekend begins Thursday afternoon at The Boatslip, which serves as a major gathering point throughout the weekend.
Check-in is scheduled for 2:00–6:00 PM, alongside an afternoon wine tasting. A General Aviation Member Meet-Up follows from 4:00–5:00 PM, providing an informal opportunity for pilots and aviation enthusiasts to meet and talk flying.
From 4:00–7:00 PM, attendees can experience one of Provincetown’s best-known traditions: Tea Dance at The Boatslip. Tea Dance is not an official NGPA event, but Thursday admission is included with the Cape Cod Classic ticket.
The evening concludes with an informal NGPA gathering at Shipwreck Lounge beginning at 9:00 PM.

Friday offers a full day of aviation programming and social events.
Morning activities at The Boatslip include an NGPA Town Hall from 9:30–10:00 AM, followed by “Amelia Earhart: Beyond the Skies” from 10:00–11:00 AM, a presentation exploring aspects of Earhart’s life beyond her famous aviation accomplishments.
The focus moves poolside from 12:00–3:00 PM for the official NGPA Pool Party at The Boatslip.
Tea Dance returns from 4:00–7:00 PM, followed by the Friday Night Welcome Social from 8:00–10:00 PM on The Boatslip deck.
Those who want to keep the evening going can join an informal after-hours gathering at A-House beginning at 10:00 PM.

Saturday brings one of the signature aviation moments of Pilots Weekend.
Attendees can build their own NGPA Saturday adventure from 10:00 AM–2:00 PM, with available options provided through event registration.
Later in the afternoon, attention shifts to Provincetown Municipal Airport (PVC).
Transportation from MacMillan Pier begins at approximately 3:45 PM, with the Airport Reception and Queen of the Fleet Fly-In scheduled from 4:00–7:00 PM.
The airport gathering brings attendees together around the aircraft themselves, with food, drinks, conversation, and the Queen of the Fleet competition. Participants can vote for favorite and best-decorated aircraft, making this one of the weekend’s most aviation-focused events.
Saturday night concludes with an informal gathering at Porch Bar at Gifford House beginning at 9:00 PM.

Sunday gives Pilots Weekend a distinctly Provincetown sendoff.
The Farewell Drag Brunch at The Boatslip is scheduled for two seatings, from 11:00 AM–12:30 PM and 1:00–2:30 PM.
Tea Dance returns from 4:00–7:00 PM.
The weekend is also scheduled to conclude with an NGPA Sunset Sail from 5:00–7:00 PM aboard chartered schooners. Space for the sail is limited, so attendees interested in participating should check availability through NGPA.
First Time at the Cape Cod Classic?
If 2026 will be your first Pilots Weekend, one of the advantages of Provincetown is how compact the community is. Most of the restaurants, shops, bars, galleries, entertainment venues, and many accommodations are concentrated around Commercial Street and the surrounding neighborhoods. Getting to Provincetown for Pilots Weekend
You have several options for reaching Provincetown, including flying, taking a ferry, driving, or using bus transportation.
Flying to Provincetown
Provincetown Municipal Airport (PVC) is located near Race Point at the northern end of town. Commercial flights connect Provincetown with Boston, and private pilots attending the Cape Cod Classic should review NGPA’s specific fly-in information before traveling. The airport takes on an especially important role Saturday during the Airport Reception and Queen of the Fleet Fly-In.
Taking the Ferry
For visitors traveling through Boston, the fast ferry is one of the most convenient ways to reach Provincetown. The trip across Massachusetts Bay takes approximately 90 minutes and brings passengers directly to MacMillan Pier in the center of town. From there, much of Provincetown is accessible on foot.
